The Early Years at Bambinos

Bambinos was established in 1995 and we have been providing outstanding childcare in and around Plymouth ever since.

It had always been a dream of Mrs Alison Lane and Mr William Lane to open up a children’s day nursery. In 1995 this dream became a reality and the first Bambinos opened in Woolwell! With a young family and normal life pressures, this was a risk, but one worth taking. Bambinos was quick to become a name you could rely on, a name you could trust.

The next nursery to open was the City Centre nursery in the old TSW building in 1997, followed by the Plympton nursery in 1999, the Plymstock nursery in 2006 and the Tavistock nursery in 2007. The City Centre nursery moved premises in 2006 to Houndiscombe Road near the city centre and the Plympton nursery was sold to a member of staff in 2012. To date, Bambinos now has four successful nurseries in the City Centre, Plymstock, Woolwell and Tavistock.

A wonderful 24 years on

With each new nursery came new children and families that we had the pleasure of caring for and working with. It is wonderful that 24 years on, children that used to attend the nurseries when they were very young, are now coming back with their own children. With so many long-term members of staff, it is often the case that staff members would have cared for both mother/father and their child! We are so proud to have retained such wonderful staff along the way and we have the highest respect and value for all of our staff.

Jemma and Sara

Jemma Honey is the daughter of Alison and Bill Lane and became part of the Bambinos journey in 2006 having trained and worked as a teacher. Jemma was able to add to the Bambinos child-centred ethos and enhance all aspects of learning, planning, assessment and development for children. Perhaps it was written in the stars that Jemma would join the family business, become part of the management team and continue the journey from Alison and Bill. Now as the Chief Executive Officer of Bambinos Ltd, Jemma continues in her role; driving the company forward, leading, guiding and supporting all members of staff to ensure all children fulfil their potential and flourish.

Sara Richards has been a part of the Bambinos journey since the very beginning whilst leading the Preschool at the Woolwell nursery to a Director for the nurseries today! Sara has been an inspirational driving force in the direction of Bambinos over the years to ensure the very best standards and care are offered to the children. Sara successfully leads, guides and supports all nurseries in creating unique, outstanding environments and learning opportunities for all children. .

A strong and supportive team

Jemma and Sara are supported by a strong and experienced management team including Senior Manager Lynsey Carroll and Lead Senior Manager Nicola James. Lynsey has led outstanding practice as a manager at the Plymstock setting which secured two consecutive Outstanding Overall grades from Ofsted and now provides excellent support across all Bambino's nurseries. Nicola has been a part of the Bambinos family for the past 12 years and is a confident leader and support for all Bambino's nurseries. Together with our passion and motivation to improve children’s outcomes, ensures Bambinos remains reflective, progressive and outstanding for all.

Our Ethos

Over the years we have developed our ethos around our own child-led approach and this is reflected in every aspect of our nursery environment. Our continuous provision is bursting with loose parts play, authentic and open-ended resources. The impact of children’s surroundings on their development has been well researched and documented. Years of experience and practice has shaped our pedagogy, taking inspiration from pioneers such as Reggio, Montessori, Steiner and Te Wharki. By bringing all these wonderful influences together with mindful practitioners, inspirational play and opportunities occur.

The Bambinos Approach

The Bambinos approach is not just about inspiring our children. It is about inspiring everybody who works with or has contact with our incredible children. Only by being passionate and motivated can we hope to educate and prepare children adequately for their next steps. As a Reggio inspired provision, we regard the environment as the third teacher. The children are at the heart of our decision making about the ever-evolving environment and enjoy a daily variety of activities to nurture their social, intellectual, emotional and physical development indoors and out!

The Future

Despite dedicating their lives to Bambinos since 1995 and enjoying all the adventures that went with it, in April 2018 it was time for Alison and Bill to retire. Alison and Bill were fortunate enough to hand pick who was going to own Bambinos Ltd and Jiayi Education Investment Group was chosen to become the main shareholders of Bambinos Ltd. All management and all staff members were delighted to remain as Bambinos Ltd under the same management structure with the same policies, procedures, ethos and standards for our children. Jiayi is committed to Bambinos continuing its journey of excellence under the same leadership of Jemma Honey, Sara Richards, all management and members of staff..

To China

As Jiayi is based in China, there are now additional opportunities for staff to travel to China to learn about nursery care and further their professional development. The first visit took place in September 2018 with four members of staff on the trip and we look forward to many more!
